Old Head of Kinsale lighthouse tours

Well folks we have a truly unique opportunity to come and enjoy one of Ireland's truly iconic Lighthouses. The Old Head signal Tower Restoration Committee have been working really hard on the project to bring the tower back to life. Plans are advancing well but in order to get this project across the line they need money and you can help!

On Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th 2013 you are invited to come the the Lusitania Memorial beside the Tower and you can purchase a ticket for €10 that will bring you by bus out to the Old Head Lighthouse where you can explore, enjoy & learn about the sights, sounds and history of the lighthouse.

The commissioner of Irish lights have kindly given permission for this event. The history of light keeping at the Old Head goes back to the 1600's. The current lighthouse was built in 1846, it stands 30 metre's tall and roughly 76 metre's above the water. The lighthouse became automated on the 1st of April 1987.

It also witnessed the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915 and has been a beacon to sea farer's, pirates, recreational users for years.

Family deals are available and we recommend that all children are fully supervised and that you bring warm outdoor clothing as even on the brightest of days it can be breezy at the Old Head. Be sure to have your camera ready.

Refreshments will be available at the Signal Tower.

The first trip departs from the Lusitania monument at 9:50am each day and the last one departs at approximately 6pm. There is no need to book in advance as the bus trips will be running continually.

We look forward to your support and hope you enjoy this truly unique sightseeing opportunity.
