Conor Cusack to speak at event promoting Positive Mental Health, organised by Kinsale Youth Support Services (KYSS)
Former Cork hurler Conor Cusack has won widespread positive acclaim, as he has openly spoken of his own personal experiences struggling with mental health issues. Conor has shared his story, and he carries a message to others who are having difficulties. His message is to promote positive mental health, and it is a powerful one.
By sharing the difficulties that he has gone through, Conor is in a position to reduce the stigma that is so often associated with mental health, depression, or anxiety. Conor has been a very prominent advocate for addressing these important issues, and he has become a regular speaker around the country.
On Friday 7th March 2014, at 8pm in Actons Hotel in Kinsale, Kinsale Youth Support Services (KYSS) are hosting a positive mental health awareness event, and they are delighted to confirm that Conor Cusack will be the keynote speaker on the night.
KYSS consists of a group of people, drawn from local Doctors, Gardai, Counsellors, Teachers, HSE, Youth Club Leaders and Workers, and Community Volunteers, who have come together to support young people, and to promote positive mental health in the wider Kinsale area. KYSS serves a catchment area of 10,000 people, covering Kinsale, and the surrounding parishes of Courceys, Innishannon, Ballinhassig, Clontead and Tracton. To date they have held an awareness day and the launch of a website and the booklet Mise (My Life), which addresses the stigma of mental health, drug and alcohol addiction. More recently, ‘Minding Young People’s Mental Health’ talks were held and following a competition, wrist bands distributed with the slogan ‘Take Care, Help is There’. Further information is available on www.kyss.ie.
On Friday 7th March 2014 in Actons Hotel, the event will commence at 8pm, but it is anticipated that it will be well attended, so it is advisable to arrive early. The event is primarily aimed towards an adult audience, and if anyone under the age of 18 is to be in attendance, it is recommended that they be accompanied by a parent / guardian.
