Gaelscoil Cake Sale this Friday 21st November 2014
This Friday 21st November 2014 is the turn of Rang 5 to host the monthly Gaelscoil cake sale. As you know the money raised in these monthly cake sales will go towards providing safe access for our children to and from the school.
We would ask that each child would bring in at least €1 to buy a bun/cake at the cake sale this Friday.
We are mindful that some children have allergies and food intolerances so there will be a selection of gluten/wheat/dairy free cakes and there will be a strict nut free policy.
Thanks in advance

Book Fair - Una McIntosh – Rang 5 & 6
Thanks to Una McIntosh and her team of parents for running an excellent Book Fair once again this year. €1,653 worth of books were sold which gives our school €1,000 worth of new books. The school library will receive approx 100 new books from the Book Fair.
This event is extremely important to the school as it supplies our school with high quality books free of charge. Also, important that we run the Book Fair early in the year so that the students get the maximum out of the new books. If you didn’t make it to the Book Fair or would like to place an order books for Christmas (or anytime) please log onto www.scholastic.ie. When checking out you will be asked under Schools to choose one of the schools below by selecting Gaelscoil Chionn tSaile the school will benefit from more free books!
Chuckies - Siobhan Devlin – N Beaga Class Rep
Chuckies last Friday night (7th Nov 2014) was a big success! Thanks to Siobhan Devlin and her team from N Beaga for running this event so successfully. They raised €734 for the school. This is the first time we have run this event and it was a great social occasion for both the children and their parents. Existing parents enjoyed mixing and meeting all the new parents to the school.
Max’s Restraunt evening- Annemarie & Olivier
This popular gourmet event runs on Thursday the 13th and 20th November 2014. Thanks to Annemarie and Olivier of Max’s for organising every last detail and for opening up their restaurant to this event.
Thanks to all the parents who have volunteered to prep food, wait tables and do wash up. If you have booked a table, please make sure you are not included in anybody else’s table. Diners are invited to arrive promptly at the specified time and please note that only cash will be accepted on the night. Its very good value at €27 per person of which approx. €22 goes directly to the school.
Calendar -Ciara Duffy – Rang 6 Class Rep
Thanks to Ciara Duffy and all her helpers the new school calendar will make a very prompt appearance this year! Calendars will be available at the office from 1st December 2014. €10 each. The calendar development is extremely time consuming but the most lucrative fundraiser last year.
Christmas Hamper -Sinead Nolan - Rang Class 5 Rep
Super Valu have very kindly given us a large Christmas Hamper to raffle. We will be selling tickets in Super Valu 5th & 6th December 2014. We are looking for additional items to supplement the raffle so if you can donate any luxury items such as alcohol, chocolates, corporate gifts etc. please drop into Hilda at the office. Last year we also received some very generous vouchers from parents of the school.
As Rang 5 is a small class they will need the help of other parents to sell tickets if you have a spare hour that weekend please sign the roster in Hilda s office or contact Sinead Nolan.
Other Business
School Painting
The school needs its 16 bathrooms and the hallway skirting painted and we do not wish to spend our valuable fundraised money on this. Therefore, we are looking for a parent to champion this project. We have 5 painting volunteers already and we just need a coordinator to get it going.
School Yard
Two storage units have been ordered and two benches with storage included have been purchased to house the yard toys.
We are looking for a parent volunteer to paint a chess board in the yard. We have large chess pieces and the teachers are very happy to teach our children chess once it is complete.
More balance boards are being ordered. We will also fix the willow dome.
Shared Reading
Parents of the school have been participating in shared reading with Rang 1 and Rang 2 every Tuesday at 9.05 – 9.40. We would like to include Rang 1 as well now but we need more volunteers. Anyone helping must be Garda vetted – forms from Hilda or Dervilla
If you can assist with any of the above please contact Dervilla Wrynn 087 227 3645
Next meeting Parents Association Meeting Dec 2nd 2014, The Powder Room, The White Lady @8pm
Again, many thanks for everyone’s hard work and support with all the ongoing fundraising activities.

NPC - Child Friendly Administration
Dear Parent,
The
Ombudsman for Children’s office has written to the NPC to invite parents and
children/young people to participate in a project that is looking at
child-friendly administration, which it has commissioned the University College
Cork to undertake.
In explaining
the study and the request, the OCO office has written:
“As you
know, the Ombudsman for Children’s Office has been in existence for more than
ten years. In that time, the Office has dealt with over ten thousand complaints
regarding the actions of public bodies and service providers. The
Offices’complaints-handling and investigatory work has given it an insight into
the barriers that children and their families can face when attempting to
access those services or when they are engaging with decision-makers in public
bodies.
However, the
Ombudsman for Children’s Office believes that, following a decade of work in
this area, it is appropriate to examine in greater depth the experience
children and families have of accessing public services, the difficulties they
encounter and what practices characterise a rights based, child-friendly
approach to public administration.
To that end,
the Ombudsman for Children’s Office has commissioned Professor Ursula Kilkelly
and her research team at University College Cork’s School of Law to undertake
research on child-friendly public administration relevant to education, health
and social services. An important part of this study is to hear directly from
children and parent/carers about their experiences of public services and
bodies in the areas of health, education, housing and material wellbeing and
alternative care. Using focus groups, participants will be asked first, to
describe their experiences of accessing public service for, with or on behalf
of their children and second, to identify any barriers or positive experiences
they have had in this area. The main objective is to develop ideas for making
such services more accessible, rights respecting and child-friendly.
The project
will involve holding six focus groups-four for adults and two for
children-which will be held on the 14thand 15th November
in Dublin. Our intention is for each focus group to have a maximum of six
participants; they will last between 60-90 minutes in the case of adults and
between 30-60mins for the children and young people. The participants will all
be individuals who have direct experience of engagement with public bodies in
the areas under examination.”
If you feel
you have something to contribute to the study and would like to participate in
one of the focus groups to share your experiences of engagement with your
child’s school, the Department of Education or other public bodies please

Corporate Fundraising 2015
Essential Fundraising following on from Michelle’s Newsletter of the 15th October 2015 and the update of what needed for the Gaelscoil Chionn tSaile in 2015. We are asking each parent to come to us with contacts, idea, and help for Corporate Fundraising. We need to work together on this - now.
Each year through Corporate Fundraising, thousands of Schools access Companies who take an interest in real local issues and regional needs. They have funds available to worthy projects. We have a very real one! We need to get planning for our School and we have been told what we need to do it! Now we must put this into action! We need to ASK for all the help we can get. Lots of Companies have resources for charities, schools etc… across Ireland and thousands of euros to help fund their projects, campaigns and running costs.
We “The PA” of Gaelscoil Chionn tSaile are going to be asking local Business and Large Multinationals in the Cork area to look to our project. We have a target of fundraising €20,000 this year to help us get our set down area and other planning requirements.
We need you & how do you get started?

for this new club.
If interested please come along to an Open/Information Night on Monday, November 10th 2014 in the Temperance Hall

2014 Gourmet 'Fun'raising' event at Max's
Dear parents,
Following 2012’s successful charity dinner in max’s we have decided to repeat this event again on Thursday 13th November and Thursday 20th November 2014 but we cannot do this without your help as we need the parents to cook, prepare, wash- up, set up and serve the meals!!
This helps us to practically eliminate all overheads and we are just left with basic food costs and even those tend to be minimal as some local suppliers kindly donate some produce free of charge or at cost.
This is a fun but professional event with very high quality food and excellent value for money, this year it will be a 7 course gourmet menu for €27.00 of which approx €22.00 goes directly to school. Possibly new taste & flavours for some but hopefully it will appeal to everyone.
This event is open to all so please tell friends neighbors etc as this helps to get funding from an outside source. 021 4772443 for reservations.
We need volunteers for both dates: Thursday 13th November and Thursday 20th November 2014
Food preparation 9am - 12 noon approx (3 people)
Wash up: 6.30 - 9pm & 9pm - midnight (2/3 person per shift)
Kitchen: 6pm - midnight (3people per night)

The menu is available here.
Finally a thank you to John Barrett’s butchers, the market garden vegetable shop and Quay food company.
Wash up: 6.30 - 9pm & 9pm - midnight (2/3 person per shift)
Kitchen: 6pm - midnight (3people per night)
Wait staff: 6pm - midnight (4 people per night)

Reminder - Book Fair
Annual School Book Fair 2014
Our annual school book fair will take place Tuesday 4th of November 2014 until Friday 7th of November 2014 inclusive. Last year we received over €1300 in quality books for our library (as a commission fee based on sales) and we are hoping to top this figure in November.
Books will be available to purchase from 8.30am until 9.20am each morning, and from 1.30pm until 3pm each afternoon.
The book catalogues have been sent home in your children's school bags today for perusal over the mid-term.
Many thanks, Parents Association
PA Meeting
The Parents Association monthly meeting will take place on this Tuesday November 4th 2014, 8pm at the Powder Room in the White Lady. The meetings are held in English and all parents are welcome.
