Cake Sale / Rang 4 / Monday 21st December 2015

This months cake sale will be hosted by rang 4 and Muinteoir Roisín this coming Monday 21st December 2015. We have decided not to have it on Friday as usual as all classes will be in the church on Thursday evening for our school concert and so it would be unfair to expect 4th class and their parents to bake on Thursday. So if all kids can bring at least €1 to school on Monday to buy a bun or cake to support our ongoing school fundraising. There will be gluten free cakes available and a strict nut free policy adhered to for all baking - including no almond flour.

Many thanks in advance

Mrs. Claus

Costumes for the “Nativity Play”

The children in Naíonán Mhóra are working very hard on their “Nativity Play” for this year’s Christmas Concert in Kinsale Parish Church on 17th December 2015 at 6pm.  Their show is the same as previous years and hence we are asking if families would like to donate or loan costumes for this year’s “Nativity Play”.  If you have a suitable costume that you would like to donate or loan to the school for the Junior Infant’s show, then please bring it in to Múinteóir Ciara before Friday 11th December 2015.  Clearly mark the costume with your name, and have it in a bag with the type of costume labelled on the bag, i.e. ”costume for angel”, “costume for shepherd”, etc.  If you wish to have the costume returned to you after the show, then please let  Múinteóir Ciara know.

Cardiac Screening in Kinsale

Over the past few weeks Kinsale GAA Club has been in contact with AMS (Advanced Medical Services) a Cork based company, who provide a Cardiac Screening Programme.  Kinsale GAA feel that this is an extremely important issue and to this end the club are now delighted to announce that it will be facilitating/hosting a Cardiac Screening Clinic, which all Club Members, the entire Kinsale Community and its surrounding areas, may avail of.

The Cardiac Screening Clinic will take place on Saturday, October 31st 2015 - The clinic will be open from 9.30am-5pm. Each screening will take 25 minutes.

Location:- Elite Pilates Kinsale Studio, Unit 1, Kinsale Commercial Park, Kinsale

(Many thanks to Trudy McGillicuddy who very kindly offered the use of Elite Pilates Studio to host this Screening Clinic)

Bookings can be made online using our www.ameds.ie website or over the phone (1890 300 333) or email.
On the Website click on the ‘book a Cardiac Sports Screening’ tab/link. The clinic code is: kinsale

People can use Credit or Debit cards to book an appointment.

Fee for the Screening is €65 per person (Tax Deductible).

Additional Information:- Although the GAA recommend screening for players aged 14 and over, the screening is in fact suitable for anyone over 12 years. The individual cost is €65. A further small discount to families will also be on offer.

Cardiac Screening is covered by LAYA Health Insurance – therefore the screening would be free to all LAYA Healthcare members, however, you must still make a booking to avail of the service.  Other Health Insurance companies may offer the facility to claim back a percentage of the cost at the end of individuals Health Insurance year - please enquire with your Health Insurance provider to confirm this.

Important:

• The national register recently reported that the incidents of SADS are higher in Ireland than many other European countries.
• In Italy cardiac screening is mandatory for anyone aged 12 to 35 years involved in competitive sport for the past 25 years. They have reduced the incidents of SADS by 89%.
• The GAA’s Medical Scientific and Welfare Committee and the International Rugby Board recommend cardiac screening for all players over the age of 14 years
• The European Society of Cardiology & the International Olympic Committee recommends cardiac screening.
• Heartaid’s service is based on the recommendations of the above named organisations.

Aonach Leabhair/ Book Fair

You may be aware that the Book Fair is starting in the School tomorrow morning (14th Oct 2015).

Every day the Book Fair will be open in the morning from 8.30am to 9.00am and in the afternoon from 1.30pm to 3.00pm and will be open on Wednesday 14th, Thursday 15th, Friday 16th and Monday 19th October 2015

Books are always a great idea for presents and why not be super organised and do some Christmas Present Shopping at the Book Fair.

This is an important Fundraiser for the School in terms of receiving Free Books.  The more books that the School sells over the course of the four days  – the more free books we earn for the school.  Usually about 60% of the sales comes back to the school in the form of free books. (This is the agreement between the school and the Book Fair company).

So it’s a win-win!  You get to buy and enjoy fabulous books and at the same time you are supporting our School by ensuring that every child in the school gets the opportunity to read more fantastic books during school hours.

Looking forward to seeing your all there.

Go raibh mile maith agat go léir.

Calling all Knitters – Blankets of Hope are back!

You may remember last summer we presented an amazing 5 blankets to the Girls Club Cork which they gave to children as comforters as they undergo chemo. This charity provides help in many ways to  anyone who is undergoing chemo.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Blankets-Of-Hope

This year we are hoping to help more children and so our 2nd to 6th class  will be taking part in the "blankets of hope" programme where each child will be taught to knit, and then the square sewn into a larger blanket.

We are looking for volunteers to help get the kids started during school. We are hoping to start on Friday September 25th 2015. If you are available to come into the school and help the kids please contact Grace (Mamaí le Eva, Ellen and Gráinne Ní Chrualaíoch) 087 9788132 (all you need to be able to do is plain stitch – no fancy stuff required !!)

Your Child's Education Passport

A new circular has just been issued to schools. National Parents Council would particularly like to draw your attention to the first section of the Circular “Education Passport”.

The Education Passport will be of particular interest to those of you who have children in 6th class as it refers to the information which will be sent to your child’s secondary school. The use of this method of reporting is compulsory for schools from this year and includes an opportunity for you as parents to input into the report. Your school should give you a profile sheet called “My child’s profile” to fill out about your child. This is a great opportunity for you to ensure that your child’s new secondary school fully understands your child as an individual. If you do not receive this sheet you should ask for it at the school. If in the unlikely event that you have difficulty  accessing the sheet through the school you can down load it here, and forward it on to your child’s new school yourself.

http://www.ncca.ie/en/Curriculum_and_Assessment/Early_Childhood_and_Primary_Education/Primary-Education/Assessment/Report_Card_Templates/Transfer/Final_Parent_Profile_English.pdf

You should also receive a copy of your child’s profile called (My Profile) before both are sent to the secondary school.
For a copy of the Circular please follow: http://www.education.ie/en/Circulars-and-Forms/Active-Circulars/cl0027_2015.pdf

Kinsale GAA Club Coffee Morning 16th May 2015

Kinsale GAA Club Coffee Morning 16th May 2015

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS WHO HAD CHILDREN AT THE DRAMATRICKS/KONFIDENT KIDS CLASSES ON WEDNESDAY 6TH MAY 2015 2.45PM AND 3.45PM:

There was a big mix-up with all the uniforms after the classes ended on Wednesday at drama. There were some uniforms left lying on the floor in the Temperance hall!  Denise (AKA Hannah’s Mam Rang 2) picked up whatever Gaelscoil Uniforms that were left and she will bring them into the school to Hilda on Thursday morning (7th May 2015).  The kids just went off home wearing their costumes and forgot about the uniforms!

I think other kids might have brought home other people’s uniforms by mistake – my own girl Beibhinn (Senior Inf) brought home somebody else’s Tracksuit and T-shirt!! And so her’s must be in somebodys else’s bag!!

If your children are involved in the Dramatricks/Konfident Kids Group – can you please check their Sports Uniforms to see if they have the right one or maybe they might have two of something by mistake.

We can sort out swapping the uniforms back at the school – Hilda does not mind if we use the school office to hand in/store the uniforms so we can all go through the bundle and get back our own ones.

Thanks a mill,

Emma (AKA Beibhinn’s Mam – Senior Infs)

Nepal Earthquake Appeal - Clonakilty Founded Charity 'JUST ONE' Appeal

With the tragic news of the devastation caused by the earthquake in Nepal only a few short days ago, perhaps it may be possible to circulate news from the just-one Charity to the school community?

just-one’s founder Declan Murphy (from Clonakilty), gave an illustrated talk to all the school during an assembly in the autumn of 2012.  While Declan was studying to become primary school teacher, he went on a trip to Nepal.  As a result he vowed to return and help the children there once he’d graduated and so he has done, by founding the now 10 year old  just-one Charity.

The charity works with children who’ve been forced to live and beg on the streets on Kathmandu.  The charity’s work seeks not only to facilitate access to education for street children but it also offers counselling and rehabilitation services to the children and offers family support and empowerment to their family network.

Having been in contact with Declan’s family it is suggested that people go to the just-one website and Facebook pages for accounts and pictures of what’s happening concerning the children the charity has been helping.  All the Just-One children and support workers are safe and accounted for, though one staff member’s mother and three sisters were killed by the quake.

http://www.just-one.org

https://www.facebook.com/justonenepal

http://www.just-one.org/your-chance/donate

Your donations to global organisations will go to provide emergency relief work right across the Himalayas and your urgently needed donations to just-one will go straight to keeping the more than 70 children and 30 families that it supports safe and well along with allowing continued support to their families through the current uncertainty and to help them and their families to start getting their lives back on track again.  These were families who were already struggling against the chronic poverty which saw their respective children come to just-one’s attention in the first place.

Whether it’s a once off donation or a preferred monthly contribution in support of just-ones work, you’ll find all the required details here and can rest assured too that it’ll be put to the very best use in support of the incredibly brave and resilient gang of kids we’re so privileged to work with in Nepal.  http://www.just-one.org/your-chance/donate

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Yours sincerely,

Jane Connaughton,

(a childhood neighbour and friend Declan Murphy and his family).
