Webinar - Making the Most of Online School & Technology Use – A Brain-Based Perspective

The pandemic has forced many schools to close and move online abruptly. This has caused disruptions for all stakeholders – students, parents, teachers and administrators. From managing the short attention spans of preschoolers to motivating disengaged teens, the online school experience has brought about challenges, lessons and stresses for many. There are also concerns about the extended use of technology and devices in our children.

In this webinar, we’ll discuss the challenges of distance learning and technological use from a brain-based perspective for students from preschoolers to teens. We’ll also explore ways to maximise this experience and provide ideas to make the most for all who are learning or teaching from home. A shift in paradigm, expectations and deliverables, or a fresh way of looking at education, may help all of us to come out more successfully from this unwelcomed situation.

Join us in this webinar to gain the latest neuroscientific insights on the online learning experience  and how best to help your learners (and yourself!) take advantage of this opportunity.

Attend this webinar to:

  • Understand the real constraints on students’ attention and focus with home-based learning
  • Explore a fresh paradigm in shifting focus from the “what” of learning to the “how” of learning, which may be more aligned with the online school experience
  • Learn about the latest brain-based advices on technological use in children from preschoolers to teens

Join us in this webinar to gain the latest neuroscientific insights on online learning

Suitable for: School administrators, teachers, counsellors, psychologists, allied educators, therapists, parents or anyone interested in the learning brain.

Art Psychotherapy Kinsale

Hello

I hope you don't mind me emailing you some information. I would drop in with cards or leaflets and to say hello if it wasn't for the times we are living in with covid at the moment!

I am starting up an art psychotherapy practice in Kinsale and specialise in working with children and teenagers. I have several years of experience as a social worker and a child art psychotherapist working within Tusla, CAMHS, disability services etc. I have also worked in schools, including a part-time role in an Educate Together primary school offering 1:1 work for students in need of some support. I have spent the last 3 years working with a therapeutic service for children in Dublin but am returning to Kinsale now.

I know that there is a lot going on for young people at the moment, with the anxiety surrounding the covid situation as well as the changes in terms of school and socialising on top of the usual challenges that can arise. I would be most grateful if you can keep my service in mind for those that may benefit. I have attached a short flyer but I am more than happy to talk to anyone interested in knowing more about the method and how it may be helpful, including the principal or any of the staff at the school.

Many thanks for your time and best wishes.

Laura

Message from Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician at Cork University Hospital 13 March 2020

"I hope you all stay safe during this difficult time. The children will get through this no problem. Pediatric hospitals are empty in Italy at present after 3 weeks of school closure as the usual viruses stopped circulating. Remember with corona children are vectors, not victims. In most epidemics, young children are the transmitters. Therefore for school closure to be effective, it’s really important that the kids aren’t mixing with other kids while out of school. They will give it to each other silently pass it on to our loved ones. What we do now will contribute to how this develops in Cork. Avoid situations that the children will interact. If the community responds to this it will shut it down more than anything we do in the hospital. From my experiences in the hospital this last week I would say that coronavirus is closer to all of us than we realise and the degrees of separation for all of us is getting narrower. I’m not that good at social media but if this could be shared as widely as possible with parents in Cork it will help."
