Parent Association Update - May 2015

It's been a great year and it's not over yet!!! Huge thanks to all the parents, teachers and children of the school who have all worked together during this year of intense fundraising. So far, we have raised an incredible €18,469  to widen the access road to the school for the safety of our families and to fulfill our planning requirement for two new class rooms.

We  have minimal costs attached to running the PA and  (thanks again to the generosity of the schools parents)  low costs associated with the Confirmation and Communion etc.  We should still be able to contribute an incredible €18,000 plus to the project by the end of this term!!!

Cakes Sales - Carol Nyhan - N Mhora class Rep
Thanks to Rosin's rang 2/3 for yet another great Cake Sale last month which raised €400.23. Thanks to all the children and parents for the delicious baking and to M. Roisin for hosting. And thanks to all the parents who gave their children €1 or more to buy cakes.

To date the school's Cake Sales have raised €2,212 and we have two left :
Rang 5 will help N Mhora with their sale on the 15th May 2015 (this coming Friday) and
Rang 6 will help N Beaga on the 11th June 2015.

Confirmation Tea - Emma O Callaghan - Rang 4 class Rep
Big Thanks to Emma O Callaghan and the Rang 4 parents who  hosted the après Confirmation tea party in the Friary  on Tuesday.  It exceeded all expectations! Thanks for all the many many delicious contributions and to all those who gave up their time on the day to help out.

Communion Party - Catherine Dillion - Rang 1 class Rep
The communion party is coming up soon on the 23rd May 2015 and there's alot of preparation to be done. If anyone can help out please contact Catherine Dillion on 086 192 8764

Kinsale GAA Club Coffee Morning 16th May 2015

Kinsale GAA Club Coffee Morning 16th May 2015

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS WHO HAD CHILDREN AT THE DRAMATRICKS/KONFIDENT KIDS CLASSES ON WEDNESDAY 6TH MAY 2015 2.45PM AND 3.45PM:

There was a big mix-up with all the uniforms after the classes ended on Wednesday at drama. There were some uniforms left lying on the floor in the Temperance hall!  Denise (AKA Hannah’s Mam Rang 2) picked up whatever Gaelscoil Uniforms that were left and she will bring them into the school to Hilda on Thursday morning (7th May 2015).  The kids just went off home wearing their costumes and forgot about the uniforms!

I think other kids might have brought home other people’s uniforms by mistake – my own girl Beibhinn (Senior Inf) brought home somebody else’s Tracksuit and T-shirt!! And so her’s must be in somebodys else’s bag!!

If your children are involved in the Dramatricks/Konfident Kids Group – can you please check their Sports Uniforms to see if they have the right one or maybe they might have two of something by mistake.

We can sort out swapping the uniforms back at the school – Hilda does not mind if we use the school office to hand in/store the uniforms so we can all go through the bundle and get back our own ones.

Thanks a mill,

Emma (AKA Beibhinn’s Mam – Senior Infs)

Nepal Earthquake Appeal - Clonakilty Founded Charity 'JUST ONE' Appeal

With the tragic news of the devastation caused by the earthquake in Nepal only a few short days ago, perhaps it may be possible to circulate news from the just-one Charity to the school community?

just-one’s founder Declan Murphy (from Clonakilty), gave an illustrated talk to all the school during an assembly in the autumn of 2012.  While Declan was studying to become primary school teacher, he went on a trip to Nepal.  As a result he vowed to return and help the children there once he’d graduated and so he has done, by founding the now 10 year old  just-one Charity.

The charity works with children who’ve been forced to live and beg on the streets on Kathmandu.  The charity’s work seeks not only to facilitate access to education for street children but it also offers counselling and rehabilitation services to the children and offers family support and empowerment to their family network.

Having been in contact with Declan’s family it is suggested that people go to the just-one website and Facebook pages for accounts and pictures of what’s happening concerning the children the charity has been helping.  All the Just-One children and support workers are safe and accounted for, though one staff member’s mother and three sisters were killed by the quake.

http://www.just-one.org

https://www.facebook.com/justonenepal

http://www.just-one.org/your-chance/donate

Your donations to global organisations will go to provide emergency relief work right across the Himalayas and your urgently needed donations to just-one will go straight to keeping the more than 70 children and 30 families that it supports safe and well along with allowing continued support to their families through the current uncertainty and to help them and their families to start getting their lives back on track again.  These were families who were already struggling against the chronic poverty which saw their respective children come to just-one’s attention in the first place.

Whether it’s a once off donation or a preferred monthly contribution in support of just-ones work, you’ll find all the required details here and can rest assured too that it’ll be put to the very best use in support of the incredibly brave and resilient gang of kids we’re so privileged to work with in Nepal.  http://www.just-one.org/your-chance/donate

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Yours sincerely,

Jane Connaughton,

(a childhood neighbour and friend Declan Murphy and his family).

Items Left Behind At GAA Kinsale Schools Blitz

Thank you so much for coming along to our Kinsale Schools Blitz over the past two days.  Everyone played very well – we hope the children had a good time.

It was great to be out in the lovely sunshine enjoying our national sport – what better way to spend a morning and afternoon.

There was a good few items left at the pitch over the two days (there’s a few Dunderrow Sweatshirts and other makes of sweatshirts too, tops, lunch boxes, sports bottles, gum shields, what looks like lines from a play!).

Can you let the children know that if they are missing any of these items that they can be collected during Sunday morning training; 11am to 12.00pm Sunday 26th April 2015. They are all being stored in the Kitchen area of the clubhouse.

Thank you as always for your continued support for Kinsale GAA Club.

Parents Association Update

Fundraising
Many many thanks to all the parents of the Gaelscoil who helped raise an incredible €12,066 so far this year! Its been an intense fundraising time and the response has been overwhelming. Thanks so much for your generosity and dedication to this fundraising project.  We are well on our way to raising the €20,000 needed to widen the approach road to the Gaelscoil. This will dramatically improve our children's safety and provide a footpath and pedestrian crossing straight to the school gate.

Widening the road  will  together with our brand new drop area meet our planning requirement for our two new class rooms, provide our children with a library area and allow the after school activities like Drama, Harp and Violin to be reinstated. A very worthwhile fundraising challenge for our school which the Board of Management have requested we focus our fundraising efforts on this year.

Things are well under way, the time frame for completion is Sept 2015 or sooner!

Cake Sale - Carol Nyhan - N Mhora class rep

Carol's Cake Sales are going from strength to strength. We ve had a hugely positive reaction to the Cake Sales especially from the children. The class excitement is palpable on the run up to  sale day. Planning, shopping, baking decorating and selling grabs everyone's attention and teaches many valuable skills.

Go Rang 1! Their Cake Sale last Friday week 13th Feb 2015 was a huge success and raised a massive €382.48 for the school. Big thanks to all Rang 1 pupils,  parents And M Aine  for hosting. Thanks also to the Dukes Coffee who deliver a tray of delicious muffins to all our Cake Sales.

Five Cake Sales this year so far have raised €1,811.80. Three more Cake Sales are planned for the remaining classes . 17th April 2015 - R2/3 Roisin, 14th May 2015 -N Mhora and 19th June 2015 - N Beaga

Céilí Mór

Last Friday in January Actons was rocking for the first Gaelscoil and St Multoes school joint Céilí fundraiser. Thanks to Trish Ryan, Oisin O Diomasaigh and Padraig McGillicuddy for the huge effort they put into organising a great night out and for raising €996.

It was an inspired idea to work with St Multose on this joint fundraiser  they provided a  new dynamic that benefited us both in energy and in funds raised.

Thanks to all the people who donated prizes and bought tickets and to Carol for all the excellent baking. We re looking forward to a repeat next year, same time, same place!

Thanks to all the family's and friends of the school who bought Calendars and advertised space in the Calendar.

Céilí Mór

Huge thanks to everyone involved in making our Céilí Mór a big success!!  We had an absolutely fantastic night in Actons, with loads of craic, fab music, delicious cakes, and plenty of dancing.

After paying all of our bills we raised a whopping €991 for our wonderful Gael Scoil.

It was a pleasure coming together with St.Multose School and we've already agreed to run this event with them again next January! (29th January 2016 to be exact, so save the date!!)

To all of you who were involved in organising this event, to the people who donated prizes, and to everyone who bought tickets and supported us on the night, Míle Míle Buíochas!!!

Once again we had a fabulous group of parents coming together to organise a fun social event whilst raising much needed funds for our school. Well done everyone!

Willow Dome

The lady who helped build the dome is coming back to help repair it next week. However we need to source the willow to do this- two options.

Does anyone know where we can get 60 plus willow cuttings/rods (greater than 4 metres)
Otherwise we can go back to the farmer in Charaville and cut our own. Gareth Price and I are prepared to do that - this Saturday (7th February 2015) morning but we would welcome another persons help.

If you can spare a few hours this Saturday could  you please contact Siobhan Devlin on 087 2771899.

Help Your Child have their Voice Heard on 'What it is Like to be a Child in Ireland'

Dear NPC Members,

In January 2016, the United Nations (UN) will examine Ireland’s record on children’s rights. The examination is being carried out by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, a group of 18 experts who meet in Geneva, Switzerland. They will focus an international spotlight on Ireland. Previous examinations have led to significant improvements for children and young people.

The Irish Government submitted its report to the UN Committee in September 2013 setting out what they have done under the convention since 2006. To inform its work, the Committee accepts reports, known as ‘Parallel Reports’, from Non Government Organisation groups. The Children’s Rights Alliance – the national umbrella organisation for over 100 members – submits an independent report on behalf of its membership and NGO’s together with a report created by children and young people. These reports provide the committee with independent material on what is happening on the ground for children and young people in Ireland.

As part of this process the Children’s Rights Alliance and UNICEF are preparing a report to send to the United Nations in March to tell them what life in Ireland is like for children in Ireland. The report is being prepared by a group of children and young people and we would be really grateful if you could ask your child  to share their views and experiences by answering the questions a survey which can be accessed by clicking this link What is it like to be a child in Ireland?

We would appreciate it if you could forward this email to parents of children in your child’s school.

Many thanks
Michelle Davern

Thanks to all the parents who have purchased tickets. We will be sending the tickets home with your child between now and Thursday.

Did you got a Christmas present that is still in its box and is unlikely to see the light of day?
We would be very pleased to receive these gifts. If you would like to pass them onto Trish Ryan that would be great.
